Conversions:

  • 1 Acre = 43,560 square feet
  • 1 Acre = 134 cubic yards at a depth of 1 inch
  • 1 Cubic Yard = 27 cubic feet

Calculations:

  • Square Feet (SF): Multiply Width by Length (e.g., 10 feet width x 90 feet length = 900 SF)
  • Cubic Feet (CF): Divide the number of square feet by 27 (e.g., 900 SF ÷ 27 = 33.33 CF)
  • Cubic Yards (CY): Divide the number of cubic feet by 27 (e.g., 33.33 CF ÷ 27 = 1.23 CY)

Mulch:

  • 1 Cubic Yard (CY) of mulch will cover approximately 150 square feet at a depth of 2 inches
  • To determine the required amount of mulch:
    • Calculate the square footage of your bed (Width x Length = Sq ft)
    • Multiply the square footage by the desired depth in inches
    • Divide by 324 to find out how many cubic yards you need.

Example: For a 10 feet x 50 feet planting bed with 2 inches of mulch:

  • 10 feet x 50 feet = 500 square feet
  • 500 square feet x 2 inches = 1000 ÷ 324 = 3.09 cubic yards of mulch

Note: All coverage amounts are approximate. Use your best judgment when determining the type and amount of product for your specific application.
